    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Safety Engineer position is a cross-functional role that is responsible for assessing various safety aspects to ensure plant teams have optimal and safe working conditions.

    This role utilizes general engineering knowledge and work practice expertise to properly mitigate workplace accidents and clarify workplace safety plans.

    The Safety Engineer partners with various plant leadership members to assess, implement, and continuously improve safety measures.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Assess, monitor, design and make recommendations based on specific plant operations and machines, as needed, in regards to safety practices, procedures, and equipment.

    Oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and ongoing monitoring of safety devices on machines and equipment.
    Make recommendations for improvement of safety protocols and procedures.
    Stay up-to-date on government rules and regulations related to safety and equipment advancement.
    Provide safety conscious solutions to manufacturing processes while maintaining company conformance to OSHA safety requirements.
    Document, train, and adjust safety (EHS) processes, practices, and procedures to target identified safety goals and metrics.
    Ensure plants implement workplace safety and health policies and protective gear practices.
    Partner with plant leadership on environmental, health, safety (EHS) programs, concerns, and incident analysis.

    Evaluate EHS programs to identify new programs and/or polices to ensure compliance, develop best practices and make recommendations to Senior Management for corporate EHS goals & objectives (short term and long-term planning).

    Investigate workplace accidents or near miss events to understand the potential cause of the situation and make recommendations on corrective actions.

    Assist with providing responses to OSHA site inspections and investigations and provide assistance to leadership for violation mitigation.
    Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
    Ability to work and interact well with others.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:
    Bachelor degree in engineering, environmental science, occupational safety and health is required.

    Experience:
    Minimum of 2 years of experience with environmental, health, or safety analysis or related applicable engineering experience is required.

    Required Skills:
    Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    Ability to conduct clear and concise presentations.
    Ability to develop plans for accomplishing assigned work and set priorities with a proper sense of urgency.
    Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to locate and use appropriate company resources.

    SPECIAL DEMANDS
    Maintain a valid driver's license.

    Periodic travel may be required by automobile or air, including overnight stays, to attend training or provide support to other company locations (up to 25% of time).

    Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
    Ability to navigate in a manufacturing environment.
    Occasional need to work different shifts.
