    Overview

    The Chief Engineer oversees all aspects of hotel maintenance, including public space, guest rooms, kitchen and outlets, hotel equipment, preventive-maintenance programs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.

    Position is involved in OSHA training and other compliance requirements, as well as life-safety systems and procedures.

    The position is primarily responsible for managing all engineering/maintenance operations at the Hotel, and for maintaining the building, grounds, and systems and building components, including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, fixtures and equipment, paint, wall coverings, tile and the overall physical property, with particular attention towards safety, security, asset protection and full compliance with Hotel standards as well as applicable local, state and federal law, codes and regulations.

    The Chief Engineer will also be responsible for effectively managing engineering related capital projects.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    (This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.) Develops and manages an effective routine preventive maintenance program to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently and safely, and the physical condition of the Hotel building does not deteriorate. Oversees the upkeep, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the entire Hotel facility, including the physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs as well as applicable local, state, and federal law, codes, and regulations. Conducts walk-throughs to visually and physically assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure of the Hotel, including all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, and any other related equipment. Assigns and verifies completion of all routine maintenance on Hotel property, including, but not limited to, meeting rooms, outlets, and "heart of the house" spaces and grounds. Assigns and verifies completion of all repairs, replacement, renovation projects to the public and "heart of house" areas of the Hotel. Observes and monitors Engineering staff performance to ensure efficient operations and adherence to Hotel's policies and procedures. Determines schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel, monitors timecards, submits payroll, and manages labor standards. Selects, contracts with, and oversees workers who complete additional services or specific pieces of projects for the Hotel, such as painting, plumbing, repair work, renovations, and replacement of furnishings and/or equipment. Reviews contracts with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors and negotiates revisions, changes and additions to such contractual agreements. Conducts or arranges for employee training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use. Monitors tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of the shop to ensure an adequate supply of necessary tools and parts. Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals. Ensure Hotel policies are administered fairly and consistently.


    Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

    EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum of three years of experience as Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer. High school graduate or equivalent required.

    College degree or technical training in mechanical and electrical fields preferred; experience in maintenance of refrigeration, heating and cooling, carpentry, and plumbing required.

    On-the-job training may substitute for educational/vocational training requirements.

    Previous Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer experience in a 4 to 5 star hotel (and the quality and services expectations associated therewith) preferred.

    Must have experience in office procedures, ordering materials, and securing bids. Knowledge of local State and City codes and other applicable building laws, building construction, blue print reading. Multilingual skills are preferred.
