    Essential Job Duties

    The primary purpose of this position is to oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance program at the NC State University Lonnie Poole Golf Course (LPGC). This program includes the diagnosing and repairing of failing equipment used in the maintenance and repair of the golf course, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies. This position must communicate any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment directly to the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent(s). This position is responsible for scheduling and completing the work assignments and must be able to prioritize assignments. This position places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

    Specific tasks and responsibilities include:
    • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel, electric, and gasoline powered automobiles, trucks, tractors, rollers, mowers and other mechanical equipment.
    • Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventative maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.
    • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
    • Maintains a preventative maintenance program within budget on all equipment and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
    • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventative maintenance for all equipment.
    • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course.
    • Services equipment prior to use.
    • Oversees the shop area maintenance.

    • Understand the goals and culture of the organization, and understand how employees' work activities, teamwork, and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
    • Adhere to all University policies, procedures, and regulations, and Division standard operating practices and protocols.
    • Other duties as assigned based on needs of the business.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Experience/Education

    High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

    Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Other Required Qualifications
    • Strong mechanical aptitude, including working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment, automotive apparatuses, mechanical equipment, mowers, etc.
    • Proficiency in operating diagnostic tools and equipment, including the ability to diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues.
    • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
    • Working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
    • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Experience working with and maintaining a preventative maintenance program, and being able to stay within budget threshold.
    • Inventory and records management experience, to maintain and keep detailed and organized expense records and be able to determine equipment repair costs.
    • Ability to prioritize competing tasks .
    • Interpersonal skills to make and retain a good rapport with coworkers, vendors and customers.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers and the ability to learn new software programs.
    • Requires bending, twisting, pulling and pushing. Because of the nature of golf course operations, you must be able to work outside in extremely hot and cold conditions.
    • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous experience as a maintenance technician at a large golf course.
    • Previous diesel equipment repair experience.
    Required License or Certification
    • Valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
    • Licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.
