- Prescribe medications and therapies, including adjustments to existing medications.
- Provide preventive care, health promotion, and disease management education to patients.
- Monitor and manage chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including specialists, nurses, and allied health staff, to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Consult with supervising physicians on complex cases or when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining diagnoses, treatment plans, and expected outcomes.
- Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide emotional support.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records, documenting patient encounters, assessments, and treatment plans.
- Stay current with the latest medical advancements, research, and guidelines relevant to internal medicine.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to further professional development.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as practice-specific policies and protocols.
- Advocate for patients' rights and well-being, ensuring they receive appropriate care and resources.
- Work collaboratively within the healthcare team, providing guidance and mentorship to colleagues when needed.
- Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies and provide initial assessment and stabilization until a physician arrives, if necessary.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when providing care to diverse patient populations.
- PA - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, minimum Bachelor's degree required
- NP - Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, current RN license and current AANP or ANCC certification

- Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner certification (AANP or ANCC certification)
- BLS/ACLS/AED training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
- American Heart Association or the American Red Cross - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
