JOB SUMMARY:
This position is part of the Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator family, involving apprentice-journey level operations and testing at a wastewater treatment facility.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under Direct Supervision:

**Operator-in-Training**

  • Operate wastewater treatment facilities to manage flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels.
  • Identify variations in operating conditions, interpret meter and gauge readings, and test results for necessary process adjustments.
  • Control valves and gates, start and stop pumps, engines, and electric motors to manage flow and treatment processes.
  • Maintain blowers, perform routine maintenance on valves, tanks, and related equipment.
  • Operate headwork screening, aeration basins, blowers, pumps, and more.
  • Oversee sludge disposal, conduct routine laboratory tests, and analyze data for process control.
  • Take dissolved oxygen readings and monitor effluent flow.
  • Ensure quality control standards are met through system adjustments.
  • Repair equipment, operate machinery, and maintain records.
  • **Operator I**
  • Perform basic duties in wastewater treatment plant operation.
  • Monitor control systems and clean equipment.
  • Record oxygen levels, collect samples, run tests, and maintain records.
  • Training, assigning tasks, and evaluating staff.
  • **Operator II**
  • Manage wastewater treatment facilities, monitor gauges, and control processes.
  • Operate valves, gates, pumps, and maintain equipment.
  • Input operational data, perform maintenance, and supervise operators.
QUALIFICATIONS
A successful candidate should be able to perform essential duties effectively. Requirements include:
