    POSITION PAY RANGE:$ , Hourly (Please note: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding)


    SUMMARY:

    This position acts as a general assistant to the department, performing clerical office functions related to daily operations as well as assisting the department perform a variety of non-technical support tasks as outlined below.

    Our students need to remain focused on their training in order to be successful.
    In order to remain focused, they often need help with other problems that are occurring in their lives.
    Often these problems can be solved by drawing upon social services resources in the community.
    These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision and cultural values.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide respectful, innovative, Person Centered Planning services in a manner that maximizes the attainment of goals, in an effort towards the lifestyle of self-governance and self-sufficiency.

    Track and enter all data (participant, employer and/or internal/external stakeholders) into database systems as assigned.
    Process file documentation to appropriate organizations and/or GWI staff.
    Provide Training Counseling, Advocacy and Support to GWI participants.
    Promote collaborative efforts within program specific team, departmental and organization-wide services.
    Assist participant in accessing the tools, training, or services he/she needs to meet his/her Training Plan.
    Identify additional barriers to training and assess remedies.

    Maintain regular contact with participant, instructor, case manager and manager to reinforce and monitor progress of the plan, to assure quality/coordinated services and update/modify goals as necessary.

    Act as a Liaison between employer, participants and GWI staff in such a way that Goodwill's mission and business needs are both met.

    Provide job placement and retention services by connecting participants with employers and job opportunities.

    Provide job retention by facilitating the building of natural supports, job coaching, monitoring progress, problem-solving, jobsite visits, and mentoring as needed.

    Promote collaborative efforts within program specific team, departmental and organization-wide placement services.
    Develop reports as assigned.
    Attend departmental meetings and other meetings as assigned by designated leadership.
    Proctor exams in our Pearson VUE testing center.
    Provide regular communication to the Technology Certification Program manager.
    Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating files and record keeping systems
    Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets and graphics, and other materials using various software programs.
    Assemble informational packets
    Assists with special events and functions as needed
    May be responsible for greeting visitors.
    Scheduling and confirming appointments.
    Handling of documents and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
    Conducts special projects, research and assignments as needed.
    Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
    Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
    Perform other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    The ideal candidate will be enrolled in social work or psychology classes.

    The ideal candidate will also be familiar with social service resources available in West Michigan to help with barriers related to transportation, healthcare, housing, and so forth.

    Prior experience working with people with significant disabilities is a plus but not required.
    All of the students in this training program have a significant disability.
    Many of them have "invisible" disabilities so it may not be apparent they even have a disability.
    Be able to work approximately 20 hours per week.
    Exact schedule will be determined later.

    Schedule will be within the bounds of Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 5:00 PM but limited to 15 hours per week in order to be compatible with academic schedule.

    High School Diploma or better.
    Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and meeting the standards of academic progress.
    Experience in office setting preferred but not required

    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.

    Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

    Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.

    Business office environment.
    Prolonged sitting and standing.
    Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
    Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
