Your Role

As the Maintenance Assistant, you will be primarily responsible for the general maintenance of the Sertoma Star facilities, consisting of the building, grounds and equipment, including agency vehicles.

Work performed must be in accordance with local building codes, OSHA regulations, and other applicable safety standards.


Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and building inspections on all Sertoma Star buildings and equipment. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all work performed.
  • Repair/replace electrical devices and plumbing fixtures and perform general carpentry work and miscellaneous repairs as needed.
  • Review and respond appropriately to all assigned maintenance etickets in a timely manner via computer and/or cellular app.
Operate agency truck for pickups and delivery of items or for special projects as needed.

  • Respond to any emergency security or maintenance related problems as they occur which includes nights, holidays, and weekends. Ability to follow an Oncall schedule.
  • Act as a backup to Maintenance Manager, covering in their absence.
  • Move office and residential furniture as required for staff or individuals served.
  • Maintain a safe and clean workplace by following safety procedures, implementing good housekeeping practices and proper materials handling, enforcing the use of personal protective equipment when necessary and reporting all unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Complete snow removal and light landscaping when necessary.
  • Execute plumbing and sewer troubleshooting and miscellaneous repairs.
  • Attend all agency mandated training within required timeframes.
  • Meet requirements and maintain compliance of applicable licensing, funding, accreditation and other state/federal regulatory agencies, including safety requirements and agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties/tasks as needed and/or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma plus two (2) years of college or equivalent education in a recognized program of technical training desired, and two (2) years of relative experience.
Ability to work with hand tools, use power tools and equipment, measuring devices and use practical mathematics.

  • Demonstrate good judgment, strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Valid driver's license and documentation of current auto insurance, with an acceptable motor vehicle report. CDL Desirable.
