Position Description

  • The Goodrich Laboratory ) in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School is looking for an independent, flexible, and motivated Research Assistant who seeks to directly contribute to projects investigating the neural circuits underlying the sense of hearing.
Working under the supervision of two postdoctoral fellows, this individual will perform a variety of experimental and research support tasks, including:


  • Collecting, dissecting, and sectioning brain and cochlea tissue,
  • Histological detection of protein or mRNA expression in brain and cochlea tissue,
  • Imaging tissue using confocal and slidescanning microscopes,
  • Conducting image analysis, e.g. counting cells, mRNA puncta, and reconstructing neurons,
  • Carrying out data analysis and statistics,
  • Assisting with general tasks such as mouse husbandry, animal procedures, making solutions, placing and managing orders, and helping to maintain lab inventories.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for accurately recording experimental details and communicating effectively about work progress. They will attend weekly lab meetings as well as regularly scheduled departmental and group lab meetings.


Basic Qualifications

  • College background and one year of related work experience (relevant course work may count toward some, but not all, required work experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated abilities in relevant laboratory techniques with one or more years of experience in the stated techniques preferred, though prior familiarity with the auditory system is not required.

  • This is an inperson position based on our campus in Boston
