Overview:

Beach Cities Learning is looking for a Virtual Behavior Technician (Teacher's Aide) for our virtual classroom to support the student and teacher.

Note:
The hourly rate starts at $17.50 per hour.


Beach Cities Learning is an innovative non-public school program, which serves the educational needs of special education students between the ages of 6 to 22.

Designed to provide a stimulating, supportive, academically challenging and therapeutic program for students struggling in the public school arena. We provide students with the tools needed to be successful in school and life.


Responsibilities:

As a Behavior Technician, you'll be a part of a school-based special education team.

You'll provide assistance to the teacher in the implementation of all program components such as:
Clinical Program, Instruction, Special Education Services and Physical Fitness. You will be supported by a mentor, veteran behavior technicians and an on-site administrator manager.

  • Provide direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students and monitor ability to follow directions and behavior.
  • Ride in school van to pick children up in the morning and drop them off in the afternoon.
  • Collect data regarding student(s) reaching goals/objectives as directed by licensed staff. Assist staff in maintaining charts and other records related to student(s) progress.
  • Reinforce academic behaviors taught by licensed staff and provide the student with opportunities to practice.
  • Assist student in community, recreational, school, and leisure activities under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Implement district approved techniques for verbal deescalation and safe physical restraint, such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and required by the building administration and licensed staff.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; college degree preferred
  • 12 years' experience working with children in a special needs education setting
  • Ability to collaborate and receive to feedback, mentoring and direction from peers and supervisors
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining a professional and clinical perspective at all times, with the ability to not internalize or personalize (e.g. emotionally) in regard certain student behaviors or mannerisms that occur.
  • Demonstrated experience using physical ability and dexterity to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved (e.g. self, student, other employees.
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, grasp) for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing and able to implement safety measures consistent with Professional Crisis Management Association (PCMA) such as: therapeutic holds and transportation procedures utilizing quick body movements in the course of maintaining the safety of students with special needs.

Compensation Range:
$17 - $25 / hour
