In this role you role will be responsible for the daily operations of the investment activities within the Banner Venture Group (part of the larger Banner Innovation Group).
You would be responsible for identifying, analyzing, researching, and recommending investment opportunities that fit within the strategic direction provided by the Sr.
Director of the venture group. You will have direct access to Banner SLT members to present investment opportunities, recommendations and portfolio updates.This role will also be responsible for building out financial analysis and ROI calculations for the projects that the innovation takes on (pilots, partnerships, investments, etc.).
The schedule is 5 days a week, typical business hours, in office Mon-Weds remote Thurs/Friday. No special Holiday coverage is needed for this role.Your pay and benefits are important components of your journey at Banner Health. This position fosters commercial innovations and strategic innovation investments to transform healthcare.
The position leads and manages investment deals (venture capital and private equity), negotiates contracts, and manages the investment portfolio and pipeline.
Maintains Board of Director and Advisory Committee seats as well as works directly with portfolio companies and their C-suite teams, focusing on growth development and business turn-around strategies.
The role drives our investments in Venture Capital funds by developing relationships with the Partners and portfolio companies, representing Banner's goals/strategies, and advocating for portfolio companies within Banner.
This position is responsible for generating financial proformas for all innovation projects and presenting for approval of senior leadership.Interacts primarily with the Innovation team, Banner senior leaders (c-suite, business line CEO's, SVP/VP's), PE/Venture fund Partners, portfolio company c-suite teams and founders.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Directs and manages processes related to innovation investing and IP commercialization including sourcing and screening.
- Leads and continually improves innovation investment processes and toolkits including: analytical models, financial impact assessments, operational metrics / benchmarks, and due diligence methodologies. Evaluates and improves innovation investment processes, assumptions, and outcomes on an ongoing basis.
- Leads the investment recommendation process to create investment memos to present to senior leadership team for investment execution. Conducts market research to generate industry reports aligned to Banner's strategic priorities, and shares information with innovation group and business owners/clinicians throughout the organization.
- Partners with senior leaders and key executives to maximize and leverage Banner's private equity investment partnerships. Facilitates joint visioning sessions, strategy creation sessions, and investment pipeline collaboration. Represents Banner on the Board of Directors for applicable innovation portfolio companies. Partners with portfolio company leadership team to maximize Banner's financial returns.
- Identifies potential new investment opportunities aligned to strategic innovation priorities and develops innovation business cases and financial pro formas to present to senior leadership for approval.
- Directs and manages financial pro-forma creation for Banner Innovation Group pilots and partnerships. Collaborates with finance team, innovation leaders, and operations partners to ensure financial projections accurately reflect impact of innovation. Creates standard templates for the innovation project financials and partners with the finance and data teams to obtain all necessary data.
- Supports additional projects as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent working knowledge in Finance or Business Management with seven or more years of experience at a venture capital firm, consulting firm, investment bank, or other relevant investment setting working with investments and companies.
