Job Summary:

As a Composites Layup Technician - Level 3 at R.A.C.E, you will be responsible for performing advanced tasks related to the assembly and fabrication of adhesive-bonded assemblies of non-metallic composite materials. Building upon your Level 2 experience, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the layup and assembly processes are carried out with the highest level of proficiency, precision, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Layup and Fabrication:

• Comply with written work instructions, standard procedures, and processes to perform advanced layup and assembly tasks.
• Plan, lay out, fabricate, and build adhesive-bonded assemblies of non-metallic composite materials with the highest level of proficiency.

Quality and Precision:

• Lay out, pre-fit, assemble, and perform layup on various composite bonded assemblies with exceptional precision and a focus on quality.
• Fit core components with meticulous attention to close tolerances for detail installation.

Pattern Development:

• Demonstrate advanced skills in laying out and marking dimensions and reference lines on materials to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or use templates.

Safety and Quality:

• Continue to be a supportive member of Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) and Quality System policies to ensure a safe workplace and deliver quality products and services on time.

Advanced Tasks:

• Under limited supervision, perform a variety of non-routine and non-repetitive procedures in the fabrication, curing, build-up, and assembly of various types of composite materials, building upon predetermined methods and sequences.

Proficient Knowledge:

• Possess proficient knowledge of current composite technology, including hi-temp plastics, pre-impregnated epoxy composite materials, graphite epoxy, wet graphite, and silicone injection molding.

Qualifications:

• Must have 3+ years of related experience, or related technical school/training (i.e., A&P school, composite/metal bonding).
• Ability to read and interpret instructions from OEM drawings with a heightened level of precision.
• Knowledge and experience with lean and continuous improvement philosophies and methodologies are preferred.
• Display basic familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel).
• Lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis using proper lifting techniques.
• Within OSHA requirements; Bend, stoop, stand, and/or sit for extended periods.
• Perform advanced layup and assembly tasks, including layup of prepreg and infusion parts, and mixing various chemical resin systems for infusion and gel coating.
• Work with small hand tools, including routers, die grinders, band saws, and Dremel tools for advanced layup and assembly tasks.
• Utilize advanced mathematics skills and precision measuring tools to ensure the highest level of precision in the assembly process.
• Complete paperwork and manufacturing routing sheets with an increased level of accuracy.
• Possess average written and oral communication skills in English.
• In the absence of the team lead, take responsibility for leading the shop area with a focus on maintaining high standards of excellence and safety.
• Take responsibility for own actions, adapt to changing priorities, and work in a dynamic environment.
• Enter basic information in computer programs as required.
