The _
Dental Assistant_ is responsible for assisting the dentist with clinical procedures that includes exposing and processing x-rays, taking alginate impressions, and screening emergency patients.
The employee will be expected to assist in four-handed dental procedures including but not limited to: initial exams, periodontal maintenance, amalgam and composite restorations, endodontics, oral surgery, crown and bridge work, and removable prosthodontics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS, & FUNCTIONS
- Chart oral conditions as dictated by dental providers.
- Obtain, interpret, and evaluate personal, medical and dental histories for all patients.
- Identify patients' needs using appropriate forms of communication.
- Prepare and assist with the administration of local anesthesia.
- Prepare the handpieces for laboratory and operatory use.
- Prepare the mounting and articulation of study models for providers & patients review.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
KEY COMPETENCIES & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of all dental specialties, terminology, and procedures used.
- Ability to practice patient and operative safety measures during radiation.
- Knowledge of all clinical proficiency in selection and transfer of instruments in operative dentistry.
- Maintains all dental equipment and supplies, personal safety and hygiene, and proper infection control protocol in compliance with CDC and OSHA regulations & guidelines.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
- Should be a critical thinker, detailoriented, and a selfstarter while taking initiative.
- Ability to proficiently use the AED machine.
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate from a Dental Assistant Program.
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support Certification upon hire or willing to obtain & renew as needed.
