It is in keeping with the tradition of providing access to excellence for our students that the City College Office of Institutional Advancement, Communications & External Relations (OIACER), which manages the Foundation for City College, works to develop and support a strong foundation of resources required to fulfill the educational mission of the City College of New York.

The mission of The Foundation for City College, Inc.

is to provide access to educational and research excellence, particularly to students who might not otherwise attend a senior college.

Private gifts have the power to advance higher education, which transforms lives and communities, and the Foundation strives to enrich the City College experience for students, faculty, and staff, and to work in collaboration with the President of The City College of New York to raise significant financial support from private sources, and to steward the Foundation's assets while serving as advocates for the College.


The Foundation supports a variety of programs at City College, including named professorships, advanced research operations, innovative programs leading to increased student success and campus-wide wellness opportunities, workforce development initiatives as well as special programs and lectures that bring some of the nation's top intellectuals to our campus.

The vision of the Foundation for City College is to be the steward of The City College of New York through the Foundation's position as an advocate for the College's endowment and to serve as a leader in accountability, stewardship, and overall commitment to excellence.


To that end, OIACER seeks a Development Manager to implement fundraising strategies that generate revenue in support of the Foundation's mission.

This position is responsible for individual donor fundraising and other revenue that will cultivate relationships and partnerships to increase funding.


The Development Manager will report to the Associate Executive Director of OIACER at The City College of New York and will manage fundraising activities and relationships for a core group of donors.

The focus will be cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview below, the Development Manager duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Create a broad network of individual donors through appropriate channels including events, individual networking, andtargeted outreach
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward donors from $1,000 through $24,999
  • Build strategic relationships with key advisors and connectors, and develop multiyear engagement plans
  • Collaborate with internal and external OIACER partners, including, but not limited to: VP & Executive Director, Grants &Foundations, Manager, Prospect Research, Development Coordinators, Associate Executive Director of Marketing &Communications and Office of the President, Academic Deans and department Chairs and Directors

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Three to five years of notforprofit fundraising experience is preferred
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, with public speaking ability that will inspire and motivate others
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with board members, volunteers, and donors
  • Selfmotivated, results oriented leader with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High level of diplomacy, patience, and flexibility
  • Proficient in using Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in CRM, preferably Raiser's Edge
  • A demonstrated willingness to take risks and address complex issues creatively and effectively
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with and across teams, seeks, and provide constructive feedback
