JOB DESCRIPTION -
CLASS TITLE:
School Social Service Assistant
- CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of routine tasks assisting professional and clerical staff of Early Childhood programs, and performs related duties as required.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Conducts home visits to recruit and register eligible children for Early Childhood programs, assists professional staff in assessing individual needs of enrolled children, assists teachers in planning daily classroom activities, contacts parents of students absent from school without approved causes to encourage regular attendance, recruits parents to serve as volunteers in Early Childhood programs, distributes teaching materials, takes and records attendance, maintains files of student records and reports, responds to routine telephone inquiries concerning Early Childhood programs, accompanies students, parents, and educational Staff on field trips; types simple and routine reports and records; operates photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce typewritten materialsi refers parents to social service agencies as needed; assists teachers in making presentations and demonstrations to parents; assists in serving meals and performing basic sanitation duties.

Light work:
Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
