- Schedules new patient consults and screening procedures via phone or faxed information
- Works directly with the patient and/or family to coordinate scheduled procedures
- Interacts with the hospital and other facilities to coordinate procedures
- Electronically enters information in the patient record
- Review patient instructions with the patient/family
- Greets all patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner
- Completes check in process for arriving patients
- Secures accurate and updated patient information at each appointment
- Verifies patient billing and insurance information
- Verifies referral authorization from primary care provider is appropriate for appointment
- Responsible for collection of patient co-pays, outstanding payments, and obligations
- Informs appropriate department of patient's arrival
- Reschedules patients according to cancellations of providers' schedule
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information as instructed
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating physician advice/instructions
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor
- Maintains clean and orderly waiting area
- Provides customer service while answering incoming calls
- Screens all calls and directs appropriately to providers, other medical personnel, administrator, or support staff
- Follows patient confidentiality policy
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times
- Adhere to employer work practices
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and coworkers
- Effectively cope with typical job stress
- Document work processes as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
