New City Kids has a proven track record of supporting and empowering young people to succeed academically.

Over the last ten years, 100% of our teens have graduated from high school and 99% have immediately matriculated into college.

Furthermore, 85% of our alumni have either already graduated from college or are on-track to graduate. The College Readiness Program no longer serves New City Kids teens exclusively.

It has expanded to serve hundreds of high school students throughout Jersey City by conducting classroom visits in public schools throughout the city.


As New City Kids' collaboration with local high schools and nonprofits grows, an additional staff member is needed to ensure that the program runs efficiently and with excellence.

This position requires 20 hours per week at various times.


Position Summary:


The College Readiness Assistant will report to the College Readiness Director to assist in achieving New City Kids goals by overseeing programming and ensuring ongoing support for students and parents.

The Assistant will provide college readiness support within Jersey City High Schools, college advisement to seniors, and general administrative support.


Scope & Responsibilities:


Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • College presentations for teens and parents
  • Inclass workshops at Jersey City high schools
  • College advising support to a small group of seniors
  • Schedule & chaperone college visits including a week long college tour
  • Administer academic sessions such as SAT class or Study Hall Administrative support such as uploading reports cards and recording GPA's

Qualifications:


  • A commitment and ability to communicate the goals and mission of New City Kids, including strong and active Christian faith and alignment with our Statement of Faith and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred to be in a related field such as teaching, counseling, or nonprofit management
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience post college graduation in a related field
  • Administration is organized, can manage multiple projects simultaneously, finishes assignments on time
  • Affinity for Youth enjoys and can relate well to youth of all ages
  • Christian Commitment is a mature person of faith who strives to make Christ Lord
  • Communication able to interact with families & community members to gain trust, discern needs, and represent as an ambassador of New City Kids
  • Cross-Cultural Openness is sensitive to crosscultural issues & relates to people of various backgrounds
  • Diligence has a proven track record of being able to finish assignments on time with a keen eye on details
  • Dedicated Team Member shows flexibility & desire to serve as a positive team member
  • Driving Experience driver's license required
  • Teachability can submit to leadership, learn from others, and embrace the vision of New City Kids
  • Teaching Ability loves to teach youth and is comfortable in front of both small and large groups

Compensation Range: $21.00-$23.00/hour

Summer Hours: M-F, 9am-1pm

School Year Hours: 2:30-7:30pm (at least 1 day a week); 12-5pm (3 days a week)
