Job Summary:


Promotes the health and safety of Adventist Health's market employees and reduces the financial risks associated with occupational injuries and illnesses through safety and injury prevention initiatives.

Leads a team of system injury prevention and safety analysts designated to support markets by developing and enhancing programs to prevent and minimize employee health and safety risks.

Develops and implements health and safety plans for all markets across the Adventist Health system. Provides leadership, guidance, and consultative services and advanced analytics for all aspects of employee health & safety. Monitors, analyzes, and trends data and develops appropriate injury prevention and safety strategies to achieve organizational objectives.


Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in safety management or relevant field, or equivalent education/experience in lieu of the required degree or diploma: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in safety management or relevant field: Preferred
  • Five years' relevant experience: Required
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Leads the injury prevention team in developing and implementing health and safety plans for all markets across the Adventist Health system. Provides leadership, guidance, and consultative services and advanced analytics for all aspects of employee health & safety. Monitors, analyzes, and trends data and develops appropriate injury prevention and safety strategies to achieve organizational objectives. Supervises and directs the activities of IAM Injury Prevention personnel utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment. Develops and executes health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. Prepares and enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Evaluates practices, procedures, and markets to assess risk and adherence to the law. Identifies, assesses, designs, and utilizes best practice solutions to prevent/minimize existing and potential employee health & safety exposures to Adventist Health employees.
Assess market Employee Health and Safety programs across the system to identify and support processes for continuous improvement to include, but not limited to:
OSHA/Cal-OSHA, Workers' Compensation, Return to Work, and Lifestyle management.

Develops focused loss control interventions through loss analysis, injury reduction action plans, hazard identification and correction, operations review and investigation of problem areas.

Incorporates Loss Control/Safety program recommendations utilizing loss data to identify patterns/trends; Promotes best practices to ensure programs are designed to meet IAM goals and objectives.

Conducts annual audits and establishes performance metrics and targets. Collaborates with markets to formulate employee health & safety action plans.

Facilitates meetings with markets to analyze occupational loss data to identify strategies and develop appropriate programs to reduce costs of employee absences.

In coordination with Risk Management, participates in surveys of market best practices to identify loss control issues and opportunities for improvement.

Leads and participates in task force/groups to establish best practices for injury prevention and safety. Evaluates existing programs effectiveness and determines need for enhancements to meet Injury Prevention goals and cost reduction initiatives.

Monitors and analyzes loss trends to determine where cost control measures and resources should be focused to minimize loss and enhance safety.

Recommends and promotes loss reduction/prevention programs and strategies. Ensures IAM representation/participation in Environment of Care and Safety meetings, shares data, trends, and performance improvement opportunities.

  • Monitors, analyzes, and trends workers' compensation and employee disability data to assist markets with the development of effective communications to direct senior leadership teams, management teams, safety, and human resources. Analyzes and trends injury data to improve safety and absence performance and reduce costs. Recommends corrective actions of a multidisciplinary nature to focus health & safety initiatives. Monitors progress of annual performance metrics for each assigned market. Recommends corrective actions to markets when performance metrics are not being met in accordance with established goals.
