Financial Performance

  • Participates in the creation of annual and forward looking financial plans for the assigned underwriting team(s); Oversees one or more local Underwriting team (s); Accountable for driving the targeted financial performance consistent with the department plans throughout the assigned underwriting team.
  • Work closely with senior department leader to implement operating plans that adhere to underwriting goals and strategies which will position HFP to continue to profitably grow
  • Closely manages plan across the department and through coaching and direction, implements specific action to address financial and execution shortfalls
Sales/Agency Management

  • Direct client and broker interaction with a specific focus on national, large regional and local VIPs/Top Partners
  • Maintain productive relationships with assigned distribution partners
  • Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Field Leaders ( including DE's, RVP's, Segment Managers) throughout the assigned region to drive profitable growth of business
  • Translate information regarding competitors' strengths, weaknesses and strategies to drive improvements and investments in sales execution and product offerings
Underwriting Execution

  • Ensures that underwriting strategies supporting profitable growth (execution on underwriting, risk selection, etc.) are consistently followed throughout the assigned underwriting team
  • Proactively implements corrective action as necessitated by macro business trends, regional issues, or individual performance challenges
  • Takes a portfolio view of the business when making recommendations on individual accounts, product offerings or underwriting strategy
Leadership and Talent Development

  • Establishes a pipeline of talent to support the attraction, selection and development of high caliber, diverse talent from within and/or outside the organization
  • Participates in creation of strategic staffing plan to support the profitable growth of the business while also providing development opportunities for employees
  • Responsible for managing and developing direct reports as well as working closely with the leadership team to ensure completion of meaningful development plans and the development of talent
  • Completes effective annual performance reviews for staff; contributes to overall group compensation strategy.
  • Drives accountability and ownership of group results to the Underwriters
  • Executes on Employee Survey Action Items as a result of annual survey outcomes

Qualifications:
10+ years underwriting experience within Financial Institutions, specifically with focus and expertise in management and professional liability.

3+ years of prior leadership experience preferred.

Strong influencing and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage with senior management internally and customers/clients.

Established Broker/Agent relationships within Central West territory.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market.

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role.

The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$165,280-$247,920
