    Department Description

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is engaged in a wide range of artist-led initiatives exploring brain health and dementia. Many of them combine artistic work and evidence-based research to improve our understanding of the experience of people with dementia and their caregivers, as well as provide opportunities to amplify narratives, change perceptions and stigma, communicate scientific findings, and generate possibilities for community engagement and systemic transformation. Arts and creativity are key to enhancing brain health as we age, and artists help us to see the world in new ways and to communicate that vision. The MAC's arts initiatives are growing with public health and community partnerships through the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI), Community Outreach Program (COP), and investigator grants. We plan to expand our widening network of partnerships with artists and arts organizations of all disciplines - visual arts, performing arts, film, literary arts, and mixed media - starting in the San Francisco Bay Area with the potential to grow into a global program.

The incumbent will serve as the primary liaison between artistic initiatives within the Memory and Aging Center (MAC), including the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) and the Community Outreach Program (COP). This person will help to coordinate and streamline activities across projects to extend resources, amplify impact, and ensure the highest level of quality. Work will be typically assigned on a project basis and the person is expected to manage the entire problem-solving process, which includes researching and analyzing information, managing the scope and priorities of the project, identifying and recommending potential solutions, and presenting the finished product in the form of a written recommendation or a completed project. Administrative services include coordinating with personnel in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. Regular work includes developing and posting information about ongoing work across media channels, including websites and social media. The person must work with high autonomy in a fast-paced work environment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking initiative and is intellectually curious with excellent writing and organizational skills. Training in graphic design, web design, and communications would be helpful.
