We are excited to announce our
Peer Recovery Support Specialist I (uncertified) and Peer Recovery Support II (certified) openings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist:

  • Provides direct support to the client and their natural supports including psychoeducation, advocacy, crisis intervention, community integration, and skill development
  • Assists the team in coordinating care with other service providers in the Agency or community
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to ensure provision of services and referral and linkage related to social determinants of health
  • Function as a mentor, guide, and resource for clients
  • In collaboration with participants and staff, provide recovery support services that are flexible to ensure cultural relevancy and address clients' preferences and identified needs
  • Facilitate recovery groups and healthy activities
  • Support clients as they move through the stages of change to encourage them in their recovery
  • Assist clients with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery
  • Assist in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery
  • Accompany clients to appointments for support when possible
  • Help clients maintain healthy community, family and social functioning
  • Provide relapse prevention skills based on experience
  • Model effective coping techniques and selfhelp strategies to consumers
  • Assist consumers with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery

Required Education and Experience:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with individuals with substance use disorder


  • CPRS

  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification, preferred but not required
  • Valid NJ Driver's License in good standing

Specialized Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:


  • Working knowledge of recovery
  • Thorough understanding of the 12 Steps as well as other self and mutual recovery support groups
  • Ability to guide participants toward identification and development of positive supports within the community
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to utilize evidencebased practices learned during orientation period
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
