Tehachapi Unified School District has a vacancy for one 7.0 hour per day, five days a week, Physical Education Paraprofessional at Jacobsen Middle School.

This position may be assigned to work at any school site.

Tentative Times: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm

DESCRIPTION (DEFINITION & DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS):

Work with teachers in the school site Physical Education program and other duties as assigned


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (EXAMPLE OF DUTIES):


  • Assist school administration and teachers in planning and organizing a sound physical education program fitting the needs of each particular grade level.
  • Assist teachers in Physical Education classes and activities by actual participation in the program.
  • Provide Locker room supervision.
  • Take a leadership role in many of the games and exercises.
  • Inventory physical education equipment and maintains equipment where possible.
  • Set up equipment prior to planned classes and activities, and put equipment away at end of program and/or class.
  • Participate in workshops and seminars to enhance the existing program with new ideas and techniques.
  • Assist in the evaluation of students as recommended for state physical fitness requirements.
  • In the case of inclement weather, assist in providing an indoor physical education program.

QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):


Knowledge of:

  • School physical education programs and a variety of games and activities.

Ability to:

  • Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
  • Mobility sufficient to move about the program area and to demonstrate exercises and games for students.
  • Ability to see, hear and speak for purposes of student assistance and emergency directions.
  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, run, jump, and reach.

Training and Experience:

  • Passage of the High School Proficiency Test at 70th percentile.
  • Satisfactory score on District screening test.
