Drawbridge Operator - Solano County, CA, United States - Department of Transportation
Description
Under the supervision of a Caltrans Bridge Maintenance Supervisor, Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker or designee, the incumbent operates and maintains the machinery used in opening and closing a movable span drawbridge.
Operates and monitors marine band radio, mobile radio and telephone; observes prescribed safety rules, regulations, and marine laws applicable to the operation of the Delta Region Drawbridges; operates and cares for drawbridge lights; opens and closes barrier gates and gives proper warning signals during span movements; ensures that bridge machinery and equipment are maintained in good condition; makes regular routine inspections of the bridge deck for debris; makes regular and special reports on the operation of the bridge and the condition of the equipment.
May work weekends, holidays, or various shifts. Overtime may be required.-

- Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
- The Draw Bridge Operator should have the ability to learn; the process and procedure of opening and closing a bridge, the rules and regulations of U.S. Department of Transportation governing the operation of movable structures, the United States Coast Guard and Caltrans safety practices and procedures. The incumbent must have the ability to; hear, read, write and orally communicate in English at a Level required for successful job performance, follow oral and written directions, and carry out oral directions involving terms commonly used in moveable span operations. Draw Bridge Operator's corrected hearing and sight must enable them to see and hear signals from vessels and see vessels approaching the bridge. The incumbent will be required to climb stairs and work a height greater than 7 feet. They may be required to, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull and stand during their work shift.
