Natividad is currently seeking Trauma Nurse Practitioners in our Trauma Services Department.
The major role functions of this position include:
performing examinations, diagnoses, treatment, rehabilitation and support services for patients.
Examples of Duties:
SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION
- Assesses the health of patients by taking a complete medical history, doing a physical examination, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures etc.; evaluates results of clinical findings and laboratory tests; reports any abnormalities to a physician.
- Identifies and manages in collaboration with a physician, patients health problems and/or conditions and refers any that require immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician; assumes ongoing responsibility for followups.
- Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals regarding health problems and conditions following established protocol relative to diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Counsels parents or other family members regarding health maintenance in the area of trauma.
- Coordinates and facilitates referrals to other health or social agencies; maintains accurate records of assessments, followups and evaluations.
- May supervise the work of subordinate health workers and participate in professional and administrative meetings.
- Serves as a clinical expert resource to staff and other hospital departments.
- Oversees and manages care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensing requirements:
Possession of a valid and active
Registered Nurse AND a Acute Care Nurse Practitioner licensure issued by the State of California or ability to obtain a CA License prior to employment is required.
- Pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 2836.1,_
- If the furnishing protocols include the delegated authority to furnish drugs and devices in the appropriate specialized area(s), incumbents must possess a "furnishing number" to furnish drugs and/or devices.
- If the furnishing protocols include the delegated authority to furnish specific controlled substances, incumbents must possess a valid DEA number and certificate.
Trauma Nurse Practitioner's must obtain an Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certification within 6 months of hire and successfully complete the hospital credentialing process prior to start.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
_ Will have proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills & abilities_
Working Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices and procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Scope of responsibilities applicable under incumbent's licensure; and provisions of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Quality assurance and infection control practices and procedures.
- Medications commonly used in clinical specialty including appropriate doses, indications, contraindications, side effects and adverse reactions.
- Laws and regulations relevant to professional practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Ethics and laws under which medicine is practiced and governed and roles and responsibilities of allied health professions.
Skill and Ability to:
- Provide health care services, which include taking a complete medical history and performing a physical examination, and other related clinical procedures.
- Identify and manage common patient health problems.
- Use common medical instruments.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for patients according to prescribed policies, protocols, and scope of licensure.
- Recognize social problems, which effect health and assist in securing adjustments.
- Write in order to prepare and maintain accurate medical records, medical reports, and case histories, to order laboratory procedures, etc.
- Communicate orally for the purpose of gathering information, explaining procedures or a variety of other matters to individuals with varying degrees of knowledge.
- Work effectively under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with patients and health care personnel.
Additional Information:
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a preemployment physical/medical assessment.
- Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
- Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.
- Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.
- Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays
