The GeoTech Center focuses on the global, national, and economic impacts of artificial intelligence, data and machine learning, personalized medicine, additive manufacturing, nanotechnology, green energy, telecommunications networks, synthetic biology, and other new technologies on the horizon.
Emerging technologies like big data, quantum, artificial intelligence, and satellites have the potential to create both opportunities and risks across sectors globally.
Our team analyzes the social and political implications of emerging technologies and leads projects aimed at maximizing the opportunities for those technologies to achieve global benefit, while identifying and mitigating potential geopolitical risks.
YGPs support outreach and logistics for public and private events; contribute to reports, papers, and memos; and assist with social media, and other tasks as needed.
This internship will be based in our Washington, DC headquarters and will operate on a hybrid schedule. Interns will be paid at a rate of $17.50 per hour. Applicants who are available to work in person will be given the strongest consideration.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with logistics for events, including public and private forums, roundtables, strategy sessions, and briefings.
- Assist with social media, especially to promote events.
- Take notes at events for internal and external distribution.
- Contribute to research and editing for reports, papers, and memos.
- Write analytical pieces for publication on Atlantic Council blogs.
- Input and analyze event attendance metrics.
- Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate.
- Must be able to work fulltime (40 hours/week) or parttime hours/week).
- A demonstrated passion for our work (in your cover letter, please describe your interest in the intersection of emerging technologies and geopolitics, and state your preferred focus areas).
- Aptitude and strong skills in event planning, research, and writing.
- Comfort in a deadlinedriven environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written live and virtual), including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills required.
- Experience with Salesforce, WordPress, Adobe, Microsoft Excel, design or graphic editing software of any kind is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization and work successfully with them.
