Description

Organization Overview

Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture is dedicated to fostering local food systems prioritizing health, equity, and sustainability.

Established in 2010, Arcadia runs four core programs:
Sustainable Farm Production, Veteran Farmer Training, Youth Farm Education, and the Mobile Market.

All farm activities take place at Arcadia's Alexandria, VA site, while the Mobile Market operates in Hyattsville, MD.

Arcadia's Mobile Market was founded in 2012 to enhance access to fresh, local produce in underserved areas of Washington, DC.

This initiative offers a diverse range of locally grown food from Arcadia's farm and neighboring farms, including produce, meat, and eggs.

The Mobile Market is a key source of direct-to-consumer local food access in Wards 7 and 8.

The Market welcomes all individuals, with incentives for food assistance recipients through Arcadia's program, doubling the value of SNAP, WIC, and Senior FMNP.

Market locations are chosen strategically for customer convenience, such as schools, libraries, and community centers. The 2024 season will mark the Mobile Market's 13th year.

Our Objectives:

  • Ensure high-quality local food is accessible, affordable, and consistently available to all DC residents.
  • Create opportunities for market attendees, staff, and local farmers to establish direct connections and foster a sense of community around food.
  • Support community-led food access initiatives and promote community involvement in developing long-term solutions.
Arcadia is recruiting seasonal, part-time team members for the market.

The Mobile Market season runs from June to mid-December 2024. Operations take place at eight market locations, with teams managing two markets daily, four days a week, from Wednesday to Saturday. Shifts will cover a mix
of weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.
