    Day in the Life:

    The Director of Development supervises the Fund Development Associate and serves as a part of the management team. The Director of Development is responsible for developing strategies to further the Council's fundraising capacity, strengthening donor relations with organizational and individual partners, managing development operations, and supporting the Chief Development Officer.

    As a member of the Fund Development team, the Director of Development leverages a wide network of potential donors along with a respected reputation in the community to identify, develop, and cultivate donors.

    Major Accountabilities:

    • Develop and maintain a portfolio of active donors to encourage continued and increased giving
    • Build strong relationships with diverse members and donors.
    • Manage and strategize over events related to affinity groups such as The Daisy Chain, The Fund Development Committee and Juliette Gordon Low.
    • Conducts face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings with portfolio, and records all meaningful actions including phone and email correspondence in The Raiser's Edge.
    • Sets strategy for cultivation and solicitation, and advises and assists with stewardship strategies as implemented department-wide by the Director of Donor Relations and other team members.
    • Utilizes leads from board members, staff, donors, and volunteers to inform, engage, connect and solicit donors to the council.
    • Collaborates with Chief Development Officer and Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations to set strategy for current and prospective corporate donors.
    Donor Portfolio Management, Prospect Research, and Solicitation:
    • Manages a portfolio of donors to solicit annual gifts in the range of $15,000 and higher, steward current donors, and encourage continued and increased giving.
    • Utilizes leads from board members, staff, donors, and volunteers to inform, engage, connect, and solicit donors.
    • Partners with Chief Development Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Development Directors to ensure prospects and donors are moving through the solicitation pipeline, and monitors, reports, and analyzes these efforts for the team.
    • Conducts research to identify new prospects to contribute to the Council and develops and executes a strategy to match donor interests with the Council's strategic priority of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Racial Justice (DEIBRJ) Programming.
    Development Operations:
    • Support the fiscal operation of the department, ensuring timely and accurate monitoring and reporting of contributions.
    • Lead planning and evaluation of fundraising initiatives, including the Annual Fund.
    • Develop and maintain system-wide processes for gift entry, accounting, and acknowledgments.
    • Serve as the liaison with the IT Department to manage relationships with outside vendors related to the donor database system.
    • Supports the Chief Development Officer in charting the organization's course in fund development, providing vital input in short- and long-term strategic and operational planning and positioning within the organization in relation to major gifts, annual fund, and development operations.
    • Develop a thorough understanding of Girl Scout mission and programming, including Strategic Planning, to ensure proactive support of the fund development team and overall Council efforts.
    • Manage Fund Development Associate.
    Requirements
    • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a professional position with demonstrated fundraising experience producing charitable contributions, a Bachelor's degree will be considered.
    • Proven ability to exercise good and independent judgment, consistently follow through, plan, and act strategically, tactfully, and creatively.
    • Must be comfortable speaking before groups and requesting funds, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
    • Must have proven skills in written and oral communication; and effective organizational, interpersonal, prioritization, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
    • Must be skilled in effective volunteer and staff leadership, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, and directing and motivating volunteers and staff.
    • Ability to come into the Raleigh Service Center 1-2 times a month for team meetings.
    • Requires driving a council vehicle or a personal vehicle; therefore, the individual must complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license, and self-report any vehicle violations.
    • Must be able to work flexible schedules (evenings and weekends).
    • Demonstrated donor database experience, preferably with Raiser's Edge.
    • Advanced computer analysis skills to create documents, spreadsheets, timelines, and reports will be extremely important and frequently need upgrading.
    • Commitment to GSNCCP and GSUSA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Racial Justice (DEIB/RJ) initiatives.
    • Must be willing to obtain GSUSA membership ($25 annually) upon employment.
