Job Summary:

The EMS Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely submission of medical claims to insurance companies, government agencies, and other payers.

This role is crucial in ensuring that EMS providers are compensated for the services they provide to patients in emergency situations.


Key Responsibilities:

Claims Processing:
Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies. Ensure that claims are processed in accordance with company policies and compliance standards.

Documentation:
Review patient records and EMS run sheets to verify the services provided and ensure accurate billing. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient data in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Coding:
Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes for the services rendered. Stay updated on changes in billing codes and regulations.

Billing Inquiries:
Handle billing inquiries from patients, insurance providers, and other parties. Provide detailed information and clarification on billing procedures and charges.

Payment Reconciliation:
Monitor payments received and balance accounts. Address and resolve discrepancies in payments and refunds as necessary.

Compliance and Audits:
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws pertaining to EMS billing. Prepare and participate in audits of billing activities to verify accuracy.

Report Generation:
Generate billing reports and other financial statements for management review. Analyze trends in billing and collections, and recommend improvements to processes.


Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certification (Certified Ambulance Coding) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in medical billing or a related field, preferably in an EMS or healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing software and electronic medical records.
  • Proficient in the use of coding systems, including ICD10 and CPT.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare professionals.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment, typically within a healthcare facility or a dedicated administrative office.
  • Regular fulltime hours with the possibility of overtime during peak periods.

We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $ $24.00/hour.
