High School School Counselor at the Registration Center - Summer Learning Program 2024

Prep Dates:
[NOT PD DAYS]: July 1, 2, and August 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 2024


Program Dates:
July 8, August 2, 2024

Hours:
Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 1:30 pm


Graduation Ceremony:
August 9, 2024

School counselors are an integral part of the summer learning program team providing planning, guidance, and credit allocation.

Under the direction of the summer program Director and Coordinator, the counselor is responsible for ensuring that students who are off track for their graduation cohort year have the opportunity to recover credits.

They are responsible for ensuring every senior leaving the Providence Public Schools after graduation has college or career goals.

School counselors are expected to assist in the registration process once summer credit recovery starts to ensure students are taking the courses they need, and completing a thorough review of student histories for students in the summer learning program.


$40.00 per hour (Contingent upon funding)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:

  • Weekly monitoring and follow up reports from Edgenuity on student progress
  • Monitor targeted groups/meet with rising 12th and seniors needing final credits to graduate
  • Review daily attendance reports and contacting parents of absent students
  • Scheduling of students in Edgenuity
  • Work with students who may need guidance and/or support throughout the entire summer program
  • Manage efficient registration process, scheduling, and grade reporting for all students enrolled in summer school courses
  • Verify that seniors have completed the requirements to obtain their high school diploma following the completion of summer classes
  • Coordinate with guidance counselors/administrators from the various schools to ensure that seniors who complete summer courses and are able to graduate have materials/clearance required to receive a diploma
  • Communicate and interact appropriately and professionally with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
  • Promote a school atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students
  • Support the summer program leadership team

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:


  • Current/valid RI Teacher Certificate Guidance PK12 (MLL and/or SPED certifications preferred)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited teacher education program
  • Demonstrated competence in comprehensive guidance and counseling services
  • Proven expertise with Skyward, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Thorough understanding of the high school course sequences and the requirements found in the PPSD Graduation Policy
  • An assetbased view of diverse cultures and a belief in growth mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
