    Department Summary
    The UO Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers undergraduate major and minor degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and graduate degrees at the master's and PhD level.

    Our undergraduate program provides training for students planning careers in the chemical and biological sciences and for those in biology, health-related disciplines, earth sciences, secondary education, business, journalism, and law. Undergraduate research and other educational activities outside the traditional classroom are essential components of these majors.

    Our graduate program recognizes the importance of diversity and breadth in graduate education and continues to respond to the shifts and changes in career opportunities available to our graduates. Research at the University of Oregon is designed to keep student researchers at the forefront of chemical science.

    A unique strength of our program is its interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching. Chemical scientists may be interested in the Institute of Molecular Biology, the Institute of Theoretical Science, the Materials Science Institute, the Oregon Center for Optics, and the programs in cell biology and in molecular synthesis, structure, and dynamics.

    Position Summary
    The Lecturer will work closely with faculty and staff in the Oregon Center for Electrochemistry (OCE) to run the world-leading Electrochemical Technology MS programs. The mission of the OCE is to educate the next generation of diverse leaders in electrochemical science and technology through a world-class program of fundamental and applied research, unique immersive electrochemical science and engineering coursework, and a network of industry, national laboratory, and academic partners.     The duties for the Lecturer include: (1) Teaching (and developing as needed) graduate level lecture, laboratory, and projects-based coursework in electrochemistry and related subjects, in consultation with the Director of the Electrochemistry Master's internship program. (2) Assisting with program advertising, admissions, and recruiting to maintain MS student enrollment in response to industry demand. (3) Graduate student mentoring and advising, student internship placement, and alumni relationships. (4) Developing and maintaining industry relationships. (5) Maintaining up to date professional competencies in rapidly changing high technology areas related to electrochemistry.

    Minimum Requirements
    For Lecturer:

    • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.

    For Senior Lecturer I:

    • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.

    • Six (6) years of experience teaching graduate- level classroom-based coursework either as primary instructor or as a teaching assistant in Electrochemistry or related areas of science and engineering.

    For Senior Lecturer II:

    • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.

    • Twelve (12) years of experience teaching graduate- level classroom-based coursework either as primary instructor or as a teaching assistant in Electrochemistry or related areas of science and engineering.

    Professional Competencies

    • Ability to teach and mentor master's students in the area of electrochemical science, engineering, and technology.

    • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with industry and academic partners to identify internship opportunities, recruit students, and build collaborative research endeavors.

    • Ability to develop and implement new curricula in electrochemical science and technology.

    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project coordination skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on completion of project objectives.

    • Demonstrated expertise in electrochemical science and technology, and/or related areas through publications, patents, and/or other relevant products.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience teaching hands-on project-based technology focused laboratory courses.

    • Experience in internship-based undergraduate or graduate programs.

    • Experience in teaching programing and data analysis (e.g. using Python, etc.).
