    The Department of Public Health's San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) Behavioral Health Services division is seeking applicants to serve as the Medical Director of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services in the classification of 2233-Supervising Physician Specialist.

    The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans.

    SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions – the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health.

    Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Services (BHS) Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services:

    Works closely with the Chief Medical Officers, other Deputy Medical Directors, and Clinic Directors to lead implementation of evidence-based SUD care in directly-run and contracted services, including SUD screening, assessments, diagnosis, and treatment.

    Partners with the Behavioral Health Substance Use Disorder System of Care Director and other SUD leadership to plan programs, quality improvement work, and set goals for the system of care.

    Represents BHS on the clinical care of people with SUD across DPH, including the San Francisco Health Network, and to external partners
    Partners with BHS Population Health leadership in population-level SUD initiative development, implementation, and evaluation.
    Provide clinical consultation and support to BHS providers in addiction care, including medications for addiction treatment.

    Knowledgeable in Federal, State and Local regulations and initiatives relevant to the delivery of SUD treatment; ideally with experience in delivering or supervising publicly funded SUD care; and ideally in California.

    Demonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge in SUD, analytical ability, critical decision-making skills, and an extensive knowledge of healthcare issues, with a focus on the science of integrating services.

    Centers DPH and BHS health equity goals in all clinical initiatives and in the planning, development, and implementation of clinical services.

    Lead in the design and implementation of clinician training and support strategies for maximizing the adoption and use of standardized medications for addiction treatment and contingency management protocols in BHS
    Maintains clinical practice with safety net populations.
    Participating member of BHS Deputy Medical Team, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.
    Supervision of SUD medical staff and program staff as needed
    Desirable Qualifications
    3 years of providing Addiction Medicine care
    Board-eligible or board-certified in Addiction Medicine
    How to qualify

    Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California*
    AND
    Possession of valid Board Certificationin the appropriate medical specialty area for theassigned facility or division

    AND
    Three (3) years of post-residency experienceas a practicing physician in the respective medical specialty area.

    One (1) year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a forty (40) hour work week).

    Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

    *Applicants possessing a valid license to practice medicine issued from another state within the United States of America may apply, but if selected, the candidate will NOT be appointed/hired until they obtain a valid license to practice medicine issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.

    For some positions, possession of valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration with the United States Department of Justice is a special condition that is required in addition to the standard minimum qualifications associated with this job classification.

    Be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and/or other federal healthcare programs
    Possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI)
    Submit a completed credentialing application and/or required documentation for credentialing
    Possess a valid third-party billable provider certification (such as Medicare, Medi-Cal, and/or private insurance) OR have submitted a completed billable provider application, along with the required documentation, in order to obtain the appropriate billable provider status
    Verification

    Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.

    Once submitted, applicant responses on the Required Examination cannot be changed. Qualified applicants must achieve a passing score in order to be ranked on the eligible list/score report. Successful applicants will be placed on the eligible list/score report, in rank order, according to their final score.
    Certification
    The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of the List . Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

    Once you pass the exam, you will be placed on an eligible list and given a score and a rank.
