Student Laborer Job Description

PURPOSE OF CLASS:
UConn Health seeks to fill a Student Laborer position starting in May 2024. This is a temporary10-week summer position in the Department of Neuroscience in lab of Dr. Rosa Guzzo.


JOB DUTIES:
The project uses molecular, histological, and immunohistochemical analyses to study the embryonic and postnatal skeletal cell differentiation. Students will gain experience in quantitative gene expression analyses, cell culture methods, chromatic-based assays, and bioinformatics.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Currently enrolled in at least 3rd year of a biological sciences' undergraduate degree. (ie. Bachelor of Arts in Biology, or Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology)
  • Have an interest in musculoskeletal research.
  • Have previous wet lab experience with PCR, DNA, extraction, immunohistochemistry, staining, mammalian cell culture, western blot analyses, PCR.
  • Experience with ImageJ, Rstudio, genome annotation.
  • Strong work ethic and communication skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must provide proof of student status upon offer of employment.

Acceptable documentation must include either a letter from an academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student's name; or official transcripts.


SCHEDULE:
Up to 40 hours per week, flexible, and as needed as determined by laboratory needs.


SALARY:
$17.00 per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
