    Transport Engineer


    Location:
    Richardson, TX (On-Site)

    Duration: 12+ Months

    5x per week in office


    Job Description:
    As part of the Systems and Maintenance Engineering (S&ME) Intelligent Edge Network Lab Governance Team, you will play a key role in developing and implementing support strategies for S&ME Lab resources.


    Main responsibilities:
    • Implementing lab test bed setup based on requirements from IT, Planning, and Maintenance Engineering teams
    • Ensuring lab test bed setup is complete before testing or development
    • Scheduling and managing lab resources availability
    • Providing support and troubleshooting for test bed issues, involving vendor engagement/escalation
    • Maintaining lab resources for production-like availability
    • Managing test bed inventories
    • Offering hands-on equipment support (equipment installation, fiber maintenance, card add/pulls)

    Requirements:
    You should have expertise in creating, managing, and resolving issues in optical transport layer 1-3 networks. Additionally, a willingness to collaborate with various teams to establish and maintain a strong environment that supports the evolving needs of test and development for Verizon's next-gen networks.

    Essential qualifications:
    • Experience with SONET/DWDM/ROADM/OTN/MPLS/Pseudowire and transport methods
    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot network problems across Layer 1- 3 transport platforms
    • Technical knowledge of IP core, transport networks, and associated protocols such as BGP, OSPF, L2 Tunneling, pseudowire, IS-IS, BFD
    • Understanding of Telecommunications/Service Provider architecture and design
    • Strong collaboration, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Practical experience with equipment installation, activation, turn-up, and integration

    Preferred qualifications:
    • Carrier Ethernet / MEF Certifications
    • Experience in working with Cisco or Ciena optical transport systems (e.g., photonic switches, Cisco NCS platforms, Ciena 6500 platforms, etc)
    • Familiarity with lab operational procedures/practices
    • Scripting skills (Python, Perl, JavaScript, Shell, etc)
