Responsibilities


A key enabler of Mainspring's mission to bring its scalable, fast-ramping, fuel-flexible capacity to the utility segment is the ability to seamlessly execute the design, permitting, construction, and commissioning of utility-scale projects.

To that end, Mainspring wishes to fill its role of Director - Utility-Scale EPC to build the teams and processes required to deliver these projects across the United States.

This key role will be accountable for (but not be limited to) the following:


  • Directly manage first installations to gain firsthand experience with design and installation processes for gridscale linear generator projects
  • Develop the project execution strategy, processes, and partnerships required to achieve installation of MW projects at distribution and transmission voltage
  • Build and lead the teams required for the same, including but not limited to:
  • Applications/Project Engineering to support sales, site selection, cost estimation, interconnection, and construction. Success will be measured on sales and construction success, and high marks for internal, and external customer service
  • Project Management to select, contract, and manage the EPC contractors and coordinate with internal resources for permitting and construction of projects. Build a system to schedule and track simultaneous projects so that revenue can be forecast accurately. Success will be measured based on projects being delivered on time, on budget, and to specifications, with a clean and complete handoff to the operations team
  • Develop a contractor qualification process and RFP strategy
  • Negotiate partnerships and master agreements with EPCs, consultants, and major equipment suppliers (e.g., transformers), and other resources in target markets that can further our teams' ability to execute projects swiftly and at low cost
  • Be responsible for managing, hitting, and progressively declining cost targets for installation process

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of demonstrated experience delivering utilityscale BESS/solar/wind projects to COD
  • Demonstrated experience and full understanding/command of the following:
  • Transmission-level interconnection processes (and gas interconnection processes preferred)
  • Planning/Building department (AHJ) dynamics and schedule risks
  • Team and process building
  • RFP writing/management
  • Contract negotiation
  • Budget Management
  • Project Management and Project tracking/PM tools
  • Estimating
  • Contractor qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and refine processes to reduce cost and drive efficiency
  • Direct experience with major equipment contracting/procurement and safe harbor strategies involving the same
The Bay Area salary for this role is $180k-$225k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position can be remote or hybrid.

The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.

This compensation and benefits information is based on Mainspring Energy's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.

We generally do not negotiate on salary once we have made an offer.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
