Arconic is seeking
a Quantometer Lab Technician to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in **Lafayette, IN.

Profile:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide laboratory testing to support operation of the Lafayette Division extrusion and tube manufacturing processes.


Essential Functions:
The Quantometer Lab Technician within
AEX requires technical and interpersonal skills essential to teamwork.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the control and developmental activities for the Production and Metallurgical groups.
  • Accurately, effectively, and efficiently providing test results, maintaining product/process records, and supporting, improving, and developing laboratory processes.
  • Having Single Point Accountability for writing, maintaining, and controlling certain Measurement Assurance manuals and processes relative to various physicaltesting procedures used within the lab.
  • Training other individuals in the operation of test equipment and procedures pertaining to his/her assigned process.
  • Monitoring and maintaining control charts critical to retaining ISO 9000 certification of the process.
  • Responsibility for ensuring safety and traceability.
General duties for the Quantometer Lab Technician include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing samples, conducting tests, and reporting test results for all laboratory functions. These functions include driving a fork truck, operating heat treat and age ovens, sawing and lifting heavy samples, center drilling, operating CNC lathes and mills, and operating test machines.
  • Operating the Quantometer, reporting results, and entering composition limits (provided by the Ingot Metallurgist).
  • Selecting the appropriate SS standard(s) or CRM for new alloys.
  • Interfacing with the Ingot department and ATC personnel.
  • Establishing and maintaining the APS system throughout the Lab.
  • Maintaining and developing laboratory standard practices and work instructions.
  • Establishing and maintaining in control and capable processes through statistical monitoring.
  • Supporting the Lab's efforts in maintaining a clean working environment.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete product/process records, including test data entry, and filing.
  • Performing preventative maintenance to laboratory equipment.
  • Supporting the Lab's efforts in assisting in training of laboratory personnel.
  • Supporting the Lab's role in Safety by following safe work instructions and helping to create a safe work environment for everyone.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Test laboratory experience, computer skills, and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to learn to safely operate small machine tools and fork trucks
  • Ability to successfully work with coworkers as a team player
