Diablo Valley College (DVC) in Pleasant Hill welcomes faculty with a vision of excellence in instruction and an ability to employ various formats and styles in support of successful student learning.

DVC seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding.

This position is responsible for overseeing patient care provided by dental hygiene students and may include didactic assignments.

At minimum, the supervising dentist will:

  • Provide screenings of potential patients.
  • Review patient medical history and assist students in preparing and follow through with physician consultations as needed.
  • Authorize and reviews radiographs.
  • Supervise and monitor administration of local anesthesia and nitrous oxideoxygen sedation.
  • Manage complications, accidents, or emergencies that occur during clinic
  • Consult with students, faculty, and clients regarding medical or dental issues needing referral.
  • Provide general and direct supervision as required by California Law.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:


Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):


EDUCATION:

Any bachelors degree or higher AND two years of professional experience


Desirable Qualifications:

The program is seeking applicants who exhibit the highest level of professional excellence and dedication, and who meet the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and Dental Hygiene Board of California (DHBC) requirements for clinical faculty as evidenced by:

  • Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years which can be met by (2) years experience providing direct patient care or one (1) academic year of dental or dental hygiene clinical teaching experience
    AND:
  • Documented background in current educational methodology concepts and faculty calibration for clinical evaluation
    AND:
  • Graduate of a CODA accredited dental or dental hygiene program.
