This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024
Lynwood Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and innovative Head of Department - Health and Physical Education (HPE).
The successful applicant should display an ability to lead and develop the HPE curriculum, HPE activities including camps, carnivals, and excursions, and work collaboratively with the school community to achieve excellent student outcomes.
The ability to teach to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level and across all levels 7 to 12 will be advantageous.
The successful applicant will ideally have strategic leadership experience and the professional knowledge to lead curriculum delivery, professional practice, and wellbeing of the HPE team.
As a member of the School Leadership Team, the successful applicant should possess the skills to translate the priorities of the school's Business Plan and our Strategic Directions into a learning area operational plan that provides clear direction for their staff.
They will ideally maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of the learning area by continuing to develop a calm, productive atmosphere and contribute to a whole school culture of embracing diversity, celebrating excellence, mutual respect, and cultural responsiveness.
As the HPE Head of Department you should utilise a strong working knowledge of research based, High Impact and High-Quality Teaching Strategies, to work closely with students, teachers and the community for an unrelenting focus on student achievement.
This should involve reflecting on and assessing the effectiveness of teaching practice and cultivating a safe learning environment built on Positive Behaviour Support and Explicit Social Emotional Learning.
The successful applicant will ideally possess highly effective organisational skills, especially in event management, strong leadership skills and have the ability to work collaboratively with an enthusiastic team of teachers to support best teaching practices.
Applicants with experience in adhering to safety and duty of care policies, particularly relating to Outdoor Education and Water Safety are encouraged to apply.
As to, applicants with experience in overseeing and leading others in the delivery of Approved Specialised Programs and Senior School Courses.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:

obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement;
complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
complete the Department's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
