CNC Tooling Expert - Arleta, United States - Superior Thread Rolling
Description
The CNC Tooling Expert will play a crucial role in optimizing our machining processes by selecting, setting up, and maintaining the appropriate cutting tools for CNC machines.
They will collaborate closely with machinists, engineers, and production managers to ensure the efficient operation of our CNC equipment and the highest quality output.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tool Selection: Evaluate machining requirements and select the most suitable cutting tools, including end mills, drills, inserts, and tool holders, based on material, geometry, and machining parameters.
- Tool Setup: Set up cutting tools in CNC machines, including tool length measurement, tool offset programming, and tool holder installation, ensuring accuracy and precision in machining operations.
- Tool Maintenance: Develop and implement maintenance schedules for cutting tools, including regular inspection, sharpening, and replacement to prolong tool life and minimize downtime.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize machining processes, including toolpath programming, cutting parameters, and tooling strategies, to improve productivity and quality.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot tooling issues such as tool wear, breakage, chatter, and chip evacuation, implementing corrective actions to minimize scrap and rework.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to machinists and operators on tooling best practices, including proper handling, setup procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Tooling Research: Stay informed about the latest advancements in cutting tool technology, materials, and coatings, and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of tooling inventory, usage, and performance data, and generate reports to track tooling costs, efficiency, and effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1015 years of experience in CNC machining and tooling, with expertise in tool selection, setup, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, interpreting machining specifications, and programming CNC machines.
- Familiarity with CNC programming software (e.g., CAM software) and machining simulation tools.
- Excellent problemsolving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex machining issues and implement effective solutions.
