SLC Transportation is seeking a Full-Time Dispatcher to join our transportation team located in Newton, NH. The Dispatcher is responsible for communicating with drivers, school districts, and parents for daily routes, trips and extracurricular activities of students for our clients. Applicant must be familiar with special needs and have a valid license with SBC certification, and be able to maintain this license. This position is a supervisory position who reports to the Director of Transportation. Applicant will be responsible for the following:

Answering phones and two-way company radios in a professional and courteous manner.

Communicating with schools regarding calendars, complaints, and bus incidents.

Communicating with parents regarding issues and concerns.

Communicating with drivers and aides.

Scheduling and setting priorities for work

Required to drive when needed

Training drivers


QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Six months to one-year related experience in Dispatching or equivalent combination of education and experience in the bus transportation industry.

Associates Degree preferred

Experience with special needs

Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing to include Excel, Word, Windows, and Internet experience.

Must be atleast 21 years old

  • Have a valid New Hampshire driver's license, a school bus driver certificate
  • Be physically qualified to operate a school bus as evidenced by an annual medical certificate
  • Be knowledgeable of school bus routing and directions
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities
  • Demonstrated ability in positive telephone, radio and inperson communication skills
  • High School graduate or equivalency diploma

Duties:


  • Responsible for the overall radio communications required in transportation operations
  • Works cooperatively with the Director of Transportation, Operations Manager, and agency administrators to make adjustments in existing routes, driver and vehicle assignments as warranted
  • Provides routing, scheduling, and passenger updates to bus drivers as warranted
  • Serves as the coordinator of office radio communications during all emergency conditions affecting agency
  • Provides all significant transportation information to the director of transportation. This will include the status of drivers, vehicles, vehicle maintenance requests, passenger situations, and road conditions.
  • Assumes responsibility for coverage of established routes
  • Assists the Director of Transportation and Operations Manager in developing and maintaining all pertinent records (including those on data bases) relative to passengers, vehicle maintenance, drivers' time and licensing, and accidents involving the agency's vehicles
  • Provides consistently positive and helpful communications to the Director of Transportation, drivers, parents, teachers, school district administrators, police officials, department of safety officers, and the public as warranted
  • Assists drivers with all reports as requested, including trip books, emergency & accident information, vehicle inspection forms passenger report forms and time sheets.
  • Provides direction in accordance with established procedures to drivers who become involved in accidents and other emergencies.
  • Develops and improves upon a knowledge of pertinent department of safety laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, effective routing/scheduling, departmental efficiency standards, and successful communication methods
  • Assists in the daily operations of the transportation office
  • Assists in covering the operation of weekend routes
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate department records
  • Drives routes when requested/needed
  • Performs other such duties as may be deemed necessary by the Director of Transportation

  • All clothing must be clean, in good repair and not torn or frayed.
  • Clothing should not inhibit an employee's mobility.
  • Shoes should protect the feet and facilitate running as needed to maintain
