    ABOUT FAIR MARKET & ASSEMBLY HALL EVENT VENUES
    Located mere steps from downtown in Austin's beloved Eastside neighborhood, Fair Market is a one-of-a-kind indoor/outdoor event space that reflects the true spirit of the city. The iconic Quonset hut warehouse is one of the largest private event spaces in central Austin, able to accommodate up to 1200 guests and popular location for food & beverage festivals, concerts, markets, and corporate events. Located one block from Fair Market, Assembly Hall is a brand new venue designed to host corporate and social events, meetings, conferences, weddings, and more. These properties are powered by a small staff that works closely together to ensure excellence, and values teamwork, respect, and integrity.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Maintenance Technician will exceed expectations in the maintenance, functionality, ambiance and beauty of property grounds, interior and exterior. This person has daily oversight of maintaining the property grounds, preparing the facility for events, and overseeing all maintenance needs and third party vendors. This position performs a combination of event setup, maintenance, custodial, and grounds-keeping functions.

    The person in this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict and a thorough understanding of Company policies. Furthermore, a Maintenance Technician has the responsibility of developing and maintaining the property's culture, values and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors and partners.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • One (1) year related experience in hospitality maintenance or similar service industry
    • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staff
    • Ability to create documents in Google Suite, Excel and Word
    • Ability to understand and use business computer programs (i.e. Google Suite, Asana, etc)
    • Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebra and geometry, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
    • Knowledge and basic understanding of commercial HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, generators, power tools, and lawn care

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Communicate with property staff and GM regarding maintenance/grounds related issues
    • Ensure open lines of communication with staff, all departments and upper management via Asana, email, logbooks, calendars, meetings, written status updates, etc., to ensure all needs of the property are met
    • Plan projects, including purchases, in advance and schedule around event business
    • Responsible for making approved maintenance and landscaping purchases using company credit card and turning in receipts
    • Daily inspection of property for maintenance/grounds issues, trash, graffiti, and general cleanliness
    • Ensure venue is locked and secure at the end of each work day
    • Clean and maintain the property's exterior, perimeter, and landscaped areas, including power-washing
    • Empty trash in all public locations of the property and specific to department
    • Use floor scrubber to clean concrete floors weekly and/or between events, as needed
    • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance tasks and any necessary repairs (furniture, fixtures, filters, paint, updates, inventory, generator service, basic electrical, basic plumbing, and HVAC system)
    • Maintain all equipment/tools and vehicles; report condition of all equipment/tools and notify GM when broken, etc
    • Maintain organization and cleanliness of all storage and department work areas
    • Coordinate contractors and third-party vendors for maintenance/grounds work, when necessary – request quotes, schedule and supervise services, ensure project completeness, review invoicing
    • Daily groundskeeping, lawn care, and landscaping maintenance (sweep/blow paths and beds for debris, remove and treat all weeds, mow & edge grass, maintain property sprinkler system and scheduling)
    • Maintain all plant life (trim hedges and trees, dead-heading flowers, watering potted plants, schedule annual tree maintenance)
    • Prepare property for each event, to include but not limited to: setting up venue inventory, and storing all unneeded items to make venue "event-ready"
    • Assist with the development of departmental objectives, budgets, policies, procedures, and strategies
    • Demonstrate a working understanding of labor cost control through effective scheduling and proactive management
    • Implement standards and procedures to consistently conduct an accurate inventory
    • Resolve customer and employee complaints regarding Maintenance operations
    • Coordinate special projects with GM, other Managers and staff
    • Problem-solve and implement methods to improve department
    • Help GM ensure property passes all city, safety and ADA codes
    • Coordinate Hazard Communication with Human Resources
    • Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

    • This position will be provided with a required uniform consisting of branded shirt
    • This position is primarily scheduled M-F between 8am-6pm with occasional nights/weekends/emergencies call-ins
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of a hotel/restaurant/office setting
    • The person in this position may have to lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a minimum two (2) person lift
    • The person having this position may have to remain stationary for one (1) hour, move about/traverse property spaces, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for up to eight (8) hours per day
    • Must have reliable transportation
