The
Payroll Tax Analyst will analyze, maintain the accuracy, and reconcile all payroll-related accounts.


Includes but not limited to:

perform pay period and monthly reconciliation of all wages, taxes and deductions; ensures all ACH and stop payment transactions are reversed in PeopleSoft; ensures all wire transfers are properly recorded in PeopleSoft, General Ledger Tax, Payroll and Deduction account reconciliations, ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, the reconciliation and accuracy of all payroll tax withholdings, deposits and filings with ADP Tax Service, responding timely and accurately to federal and state agency notices and inquiries, and conducting periodic and quarterly audits to ensure accurate year-end processing of employee W2's.

Will prepare, analyze, and report results of various project expenses and investments, payroll department benchmarks, and time and attendance system data.


Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a
Payroll Tax Analyst at Hackensack Meridian _Health_ includes:

  • Reconcile payroll tax withholdings to ADP reports/deposits (periodic, quarterly and annual basis).
  • Manage entire yearend processing, including periodic audits to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee W2's; process W2c's and quarterly amendments as needed.
  • Perform audits on all payroll wages to ensure proper classification of 'taxable' vs. 'nontaxable' wages.
  • Process tax balance adjustments and quarterly amendments as needed.
  • Verify all ACH and stop payment transactions are reversed in PeopleSoft.
  • Verify all wire transfers are properly recorded in PeopleSoft.
  • Reconcile and verify accuracy of all payroll tax withholdings, deposits and filings with ADP Tax Service.
  • Partner with ADP to respond timely and accurately to federal and state agency notices.
  • Conduct periodic and quarterly audits to ensure accurate yearend processing of employee W2's.
  • Prepare, analyze, and report results of various project expenses and investments, payroll department benchmarks, and time and attendance system data.
  • Run queries and audit payroll staff entries of employee tax forms and paycheck processing to ensure accurate tax withholdings.
  • Perform system testing of payroll tax data/configuration in PeopleSoft for regular tax updates and system upgrades/implementations.
  • Act as liaison between payroll and Accounting to reconcile g/l variances and outstanding items.
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze payroll records for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Implement payroll procedures for internal controls and ensure compliance with established accounting practices and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop reconciliation process for reconciling all payroll deductions/funding for all 3rd party vendors and internal benefit plans.
  • Analyze State unemployment & disability plans (private vs. state plans) for cost effective solutions.
  • Analyze claims and dispute process to see where we can reduce expenses and improve processes.
  • Will be the main contact person for employee inquiries involving all tax related questions.
  • Run adhoc reports, and develop charts/presentations as needed.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of key responsibilities, including all payroll procedures and policies.
  • Participate in system implementations as required.
  • Process payroll adjustments and provide support to payroll processing cycle as needed.
  • Answer calls via Payroll Help Desk (ACD) as needed or part of rotation.
  • Perform adhoc projects and other department tasks as assigned.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years' payroll tax experience, processing and reconciling quarterly federal and state tax returns.
  • Five or more years' of experience researching and interpreting federal and state wage and tax regulations.
  • Three or more years' of with PeopleSoft Payroll for North America processing tax table changes, tax balance adjustments, W2 processing and running tax reports.
  • Strong proficiency with PeopleSoft Query Manager, especially creating new queries and understanding table structure.
  • Ability to successfully and independently identify, analyze and resolve issues.
  • Strong reconciliation skill
