    Job Description


    SCOPE OF POSITION


    • The Clinical Informatics Director plans, organizes and monitors the daily activities of Clinical Informatics Department and other assigned areas as designated by the Senior Vice President of Clinical Technology and Integration.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director collaborates with alliance-wide leadership i.e. Quality Department Service Leaders, SSDs, VPs, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director-Informatics and leadership at each campus to facilitate resources to develop evidence based physician order sets and plans of care.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director ensures that the Clinical Informatics Evidence Base Care Manager collaborates with members of the Medical Staff to standardize, develop, implement and maintain physician order set content. Ensures Clinical Informatics Evidence Based Manager develops key relationship with Patient Care Leadership; while assisting with the formation of and coordination of alliance wide multidisciplinary groups assigned to standardize, develop, implement and maintain plans of care.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director collaborates with clinical and ancillary departments in the planning and organizing of wireless communication deployment strategies.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director collaborates with Clinical and Ancillary leadership to organize and standardize nurse call system functionality, operational capabilities and alliance-wide integration to maximize team members understanding of the system for system utilization.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director ensures Clinical Informatics team members are educated and competent to manage and support clinical applications
    • The Clinical Informatics Director collaborates with the Clinical Informatics Education Lead and Ballad Health Organizational Development Department personnel to ensure clinical application education material meets applicable standards
    • The Clinical Informatics Director is responsible for ensuring that policies are consistently observed and for the development and implementation of departmental policies which incorporate "evidence based" and "best practice" initiatives.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director is accountable for compliance with all pertinent Joint Commission standards and with federal, state and local regulations.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director is responsible for strategic planning in support of the hospital's Mission and Vision; for developing long-term and short-term goals and objectives; facilities clinical integration and adoption of electronic applications into clinical workflows; equipment evaluation, selection, and maximization of equipment functionality; personnel selection, assignment, development and evaluation; other resource allocation; customer relations.
    • As an integral part of the Ballad management team, the Clinical Informatics Director is required to participate in the system's continuous Quality Improvement Programs, to cooperate with and support interdepartmental projects to improve quality of service and reduce costs.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director develops and maintains effective liaison relationships with nursing and ancillary leaders and clinical disciplines across the alliance.
    • The Clinical Informatics Director facilitates discussion, involvement and understanding of alliance-wide clinical disciplines and leaders with respect to leadership's role and involvement to ensure Ballad
    • Team members adopt technology into their work flows and ensures transition to the electronic medical record are safe and effective
    • Planning is conducted to ensure the disciplines "key concerns" and "key changes" are included in pre and post implementation processes for the electronic record.
    • Staff attendance is required prior to implementation of electronic applications
    • Policies and procedures are developed and updated as necessary to coincide with clinical information systems usage
    • Leaders follow through with current monitoring and compliance checks.
    • Leaders collaborate with Clinical Informatics Director to develop pre and post implementation measurements and that said measurements are implemented to promote positive patient outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement and promote staff satisfaction and retention.
    • Continue current tracking measures and work with Clinical Informatics Team to make appropriate adjustments, on line reports, and changes to continue the evolution to a complete electronic documentation.
    • Connect resources from I.S. to clinical disciplines and clinical disciplines to I.S. resources.
    • Continue to refine the shared leadership oversight capability, communication capability, so as to assist to evolve this group as clinical documentation needs change.
    • Work collaboratively with I.S. and leaders of CPOE to ensure connectivity, communication, and collaboration of nursing, clinical disciplines and physicians in the electronic documentation process.
    • Develop and maintain a process to ensure follow-up with issues and needed changes to the electronic documentation system.
    • Collaborates with medical and clinical leadership in the assessment of needs and implementation of strategies to link practice guidelines to practice-based electronic medical records systems
    • Responsible for PI/Metrics for Project Safetyfirst - provide oversight and direction to Quality Metrics Specialist and collaborates with clinical leadership to develop real-time electronic reports
    • Provides oversight and development of Project Safetyfirst Change Management activities

    EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

    At a minimum, the Director will possess a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate clinical discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.

    The position requires a minimum of 5 years of in a clinical role, at least 3 years in a management role, and 3 years in a clinical informatics role.
