Description

The primary function of the DC Prevention Center (DCPC) Community Mobilizer is to serve as a liaison between the Prevention Center and Ward 1 & 2 communities by attending relevant community meetings and events; identifying links between the information presented at these meetings and how they guide DCPC actions; and assisting in the implementation of community conversations and forums.

The Community Mobilizer will select appropriate materials and disseminate community education on substance abuse through events and meetings.

The Community Mobilizer will also work closely with the DCPC Director and Coordinator to guide potential community prevention networks through the process towards action planning and community change.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Attend relevant community meetings and events as a representative of the DCPC to promote the Prevention Center, identify potential networks, conduct community education, and learn about current community issues that are of interest to the Prevention Center.
  • In collaboration with DCPC staff, conduct technical assistance and training for networks to increase their capacity to create community change in regard to substance abuse.
  • Develop and maintain resources and strong working relationships with networks and other agencies within the community.
  • In coordination with funding requirements, execute marketing strategy including logo, graphic design and other identifiers to promote the Prevention Center and other associated community events.
  • Conduct community education and participate in community mobilization activities with Prevention Center, LAYC, or other community organization staff during on
- and off-site organizational events.

  • Assist in implementation and development of community forums on substance abuse prevention hosted by the Prevention Center.
  • Maintain current and accurate knowledge of substance abuse as it pertains to target population.
  • Ensure that all documentation, including statistics, meeting attendance, and data is accurate and entered in the ETO software system or other databases as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with LAYC and community partners.
  • Contribute to narrative reports as required by the substance use disorders (SUD) Prevention staff at DBH.
  • Meet regularly with the PC Coordinator to discuss programmatic issues and monitor and plan objectives attainment.
  • Improve professional skills by attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions (as needed and as required by SUDS and/or LAYC).
  • Provide referrals for substance abuse treatment when appropriate.
  • Document all contacts with youth, family members, LAYC staff, and other agencies involved in the provision of services.
  • Report on time, unless a legitimate excuse is provided.
  • Attends all mandatory LAYC staff meetings and adhere to all LAYC personnel policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PC Director and Coordinator.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree or strong relevant experience.
  • Bilingual or fluent/proficient: English and Spanish required.
  • 2+ years of experience working with youth and/or communities.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
