The Boston Globe is hiring an experienced reporter to focus on Rhode Island, a critical part of our regional expansion.

This reporter will primarily cover transportation and infrastructure, the environment, green energy, and business.


They should have a digital-first mindset, strong reporting and writing skills, an understanding of SEO, a hearty appetite for news and, ideally, a passion for and knowledge of the Ocean State.


Responsibilities:


  • Report and write news and feature stories each day on topics including transportation, infrastructure, the environment, green energy, and business.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with the rest of the Globe Rhode Island team in covering breaking news events and on enterprise projects
  • Monitor analytics and metrics to surface trends and hone our coverage of Rhode Island news

Qualifications:


  • At least 35 years experience as a journalist at a major market or publication
  • Ability to write clean, compelling copy on tight deadlines
  • Appetite for writing multiple stories on a variety of topics each day
  • Ability to write deeply reported enterprise stories
  • Digitally savvy and familiar with audience analytics
  • Curious, creative, and eager to explore
  • An eye for good stories that transcend location
  • Multimedia experience especially in audio, video, and social mediabased storytelling is a plus
  • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
