***Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties related to the control of aquatic and terrestrial weeds along waterways, retention areas, conveyance canals, retention ponds, and wetlands.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are illustrative for this position.

  • Responds to fish kills, algae blooms, turbidity, and related complaints.
  • Operates vehicles, boats, and utility vehicles.
  • Assists with mixing and spraying chemicals from trucks, airboats, and allterrain vehicles including skiffs to control weed growth in lakes, storm water retention ponds, and conveyance canals.
  • Removes exotic plants from wetlands, buffers, and preserves.
  • Provides assistance with other crews.
  • Removes debris/trash from lakes and right of way.
  • Assists with storm preparation and storm relief efforts.
  • Inspects and cleans storm drains.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:


  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three to six months of experience in labor intensive maintenance work or any combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:


  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Florida Restricted Use Public Pesticide Applicators license (Aquatic) within a twelvemonth period.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Public Works Department as they pertain to the performance of the duties of the lakes and wetlands.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
  • Ability to work constantly outside under adverse weather conditions of cold, heat, humidity, and rain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a variety of boats and spray equipment, rakes, power/hand tools, etc.

Must be able to carry, lift or push articles weighing up to 50 lbs.

Must wear personal protection equipment where required, such as hard hat/helmet, safety glasses, goggles, safety belt, safety shoes/boots, hearing protectors, safety harness, and gloves.


Pay:
$ $26.21 per hour


Expected hours:
No less than 40 per week
