Key ResponsibilitiesDevelopment and management of referral process to carriers/reinsurers across BUs
Working with BU leaders on standardizing and maintaining all UW Guides, rating plans, forms portfolios, levels of authority, etc.
Building out form portfolios with BU leaders for E&S programs – leveraging industry sources, competitors, etc. to develop coverage forms for proprietary programs
Finding ways to expand UW appetite in intelligent manner with BU leaders and learn from our declination data
Vetting new programs from an UW perspective – working with prospective Underwriters to get their programs built and deployed at ISC
Helping bridge BU's and tech for new UW efficiencies, STP opportunities
Act as SME on build out of UW desktop for each program – working with tech to improve UW system capabilities and UW process
Working with BU leaders and analyst team to ID and address UW issues including corrective actions
Help build out new Excess tower of capacity including how we manage/feed multiple towers of capacity
Working with BU leaders and product management to ID and implement new rating/UW variables
Establishes internal Underwriting Department objectives, and heads underwriting and approval processes to maximize profits and minimize losses of an insurance organization.
Oversees the development and assures implementation of the Underwriting Department's policies, programs, practices, procedures, standards, and guidelines to achieve profitable results and acceptable loss ratios for all lines of business.
Develops, monitors, and assesses Underwriting productivity and service standards.Develops and monitors plans to ensure profitability and spread of risk, and maintains a balance of profitability and risk management and leverage.
Analyzes reports of underwriting issues, and determines risks the company may face due to sales policies, financial instruments, or other business practices which introduce risk to the company's operations.
Builds and coaches the Underwriting Department management team, consults with and advises them on complex risks, and makes underwriting decisions on risks exceeding their authority.
Develops and monitors the department budget; and monitors investments made by the company, cash-flow, and liquidity of the company as a whole and, adjusts and changes risk-management systems throughout the company to maintain a balance of profit and exposure.
Prepares and/or present Underwriting Department reports for board members and shareholders.Oversees the selection, promotion of Underwriting staff; and oversees training and development of staff in portfolio-building and underwriting skills.
Help drive x-sale capabilities across the BUs and programs
Working with Product Management, ID and vet new 3rd party data sources to be used in Underwriting
Training and developing new underwriters – build out of internal UW training program for ISC
Acts as SME on building out efficient underwriting and support processes across BUs.
Qualifications
8+ years people leadership experience preferred
10+ years underwriting preferred
Underwriting experience in E&S environment across a number of industry segments including construction, hospitality, property, entertainment, excess, etc.
Experience Underwriting supported and unsupported Excess business across a broad range of industries – must be able to produce business as an underwriter
Program auditing – performing UW Audits on all MGA programs
Experience managing MGA underwriting operations
Training and developing new underwriters – build out of internal UW training program for ISC
Experience working with carriers and reinsurers to build and manage E&S programs
Experience building out quote/bind/issue process for E&S programs including broker facing portals (need to do this in Excess)
The starting annual pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience.
