DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


The Houston Health Department (HHD) has provided traditional public health services for more than 180 years, seeking to use innovative methods to market the community's present and future needs.

Our mission is to work in partnership with city, state and community partners to promote and protect the health and social wellness.


We are seeking a professional to perform technical bacteriological, serological and virological laboratory work according to clearly prescribed procedures and laboratory techniques.


Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Analyze wastewater samples for SARS-CoV-2 in compliance with the Environmental Laboratory Quality Manual requirements.
  • Sample Accessioning and Processing.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control procedures for SARS-CoV-2 wastewater analysis in compliance with the Environmental Laboratory Quality Manual requirements.
  • 4. Monitor and maintain current inventory levels and receive supplies for SARS-CoV2 wastewater analysis. Ensure quantities that appear in the inventory database are accurate weekly, for planning of purchases and met traceability requirements.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning lab glassware, inventory updates and other laboratory support tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position occasionally requires stooping or bending.

Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bacteriology, Microbiology or a closely related field is required.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

One (1) year of experience in laboratory work dealing with bacteriology, serology or virology is required.
