Description
The Posse Institute is the research arm of The Posse Foundation. The Institute is interested in research on matters relating to access, leadership, diversity and retention in higher education.

One of the primary goals of the Institute is to maintain and analyze The Posse Foundation's Salesforce database and unique data set, and to ensure that as the Foundation grows, progress is tracked and best practices are evaluated.

The Database Associate is one of three members on the Posse Institute team. This role involves a combination of assisting and taking the lead on project work.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collecting and analyzing internal program data
  • Reporting on internal and external student data and programming
  • Designing and building surveys
  • Generating queries and reports in Salesforce and Excel
  • Supporting staff at local sites and in the national office on data integrity and best practices. Includes designing, assisting, supporting and leading trainings and creating materials such as manuals and guides
  • Executing new projects and ongoing improvements related to data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Creating and updating content for speeches, presentations, and workshops
  • Inputting, cleaning, and maintaining internal data
  • Assisting in the creation and update of process documents and guides
  • Gathering external research on issues related to access and equity in higher education.
  • Managing biannual data collection efforts and communicate with project teams on progress and delays. Incudes checking data and working with teams to improve accuracy
  • Preparing data spreadsheets for annual external data collection projects
  • Assist and occasionally lead new hire orientations and weekly departmental office hours
  • Providing enduser support and troubleshooting with external portals


The Research Associate reports directly to the National Director of the Posse Institute and works closely with the Salesforce Administrator.


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Analytical skills, including some experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Research experience and interest in higher education, access and equity issues
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Experience with a CRM (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience with basic statistical analysis a plus
  • Experience with SharePoint a plus
  • Experience with project management tools a plus
  • Belief in Posse's mission and values
