Job Description

Between water pipes and paving stones:

Every street has an inner life. Tiefbaufacharbeiter*innen know exactly what lies beneath asphalt or cobblestones: the pipes for drinking, sewage, and rainwater, as well as power and gas lines and telephone cables.

When a street or section of a street needs to be renewed or work needs to be done on the supply and disposal lines, Tiefbaufacharbeiter*innen are called upon.

They carry out the necessary excavation work and move soil using machines and special vehicles such as excavators. They secure the construction pits against sliding earth, lay trenches and dry areas, and compact the soil after completing the work.

The appearance of a street is not only shaped by asphalt coverings, but also by - sometimes protected as historical monuments - paving stones. Tiefbaufacharbeiter*innen maintain and renew this pavement, lifting, carrying, and processing different types of stones, such as the commonly used small grey mosaic stones. Laying the mosaic stones in different patterns, such as in rows, polygons, or segmental arches, is a typical task for Tiefbaufacharbeiter*innen.

They ensure a solid foundation under our feet.

Tiefbaufacharbeiter*innen work outdoors all day and are therefore exposed to the weather.
