The Driver I will transport patients, interoffice mail (small and large packages), laboratory specimen, and miscellaneous items between NEMS clinics and associated locations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Carry out safe, quality, and timely transport of patients, documents, laboratory specimens, etc. to NEMS clinics and other locations.
  • Follow proper loading and unloading procedures to preserve security and integrity of interoffice deliveries; safeguard badge/keys, sensitive documents and information, etc.
  • Abide by scheduled routes and times corresponding to patients' appointment times.
  • Safely transport patients to and from their physician and other medical appointments as requested, in accordance with CA Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
  • Ensure passenger safety through the proper use of safety belts, wheelchair tie downs, and other safety equipment.
  • Assist passengers during pickup to safely embark NEMS vehicle(s), and at dropoff, safe disembarking into building/home.
  • Transport supplies and equipment to and from patients' home or other clinic/community locations as requested.
  • Maintain vehicle's First Aid Kit & Fire Extinguisher, replenishing supplies as they are used, or replacing before expiry.
  • Report to Supervisor any moving/nonmoving violation on the road, including vehicular collision, and any atrisk incident that may involve damage, loss, injury, etc.
  • Observe and report safety and behavioral issues, assistance needs, and/or other factors impacting the safety, quality or timely transport of passenger(s) or material deliveries.
  • Establish positive rapport with patients, their family members/caregivers, and all members of NEMS care team, Transportation, and network providers.
  • Maintain current unexpired driver credentials, including external and State licensure.
  • Ensure NEMS vehicle in good mechanical condition with clean and presentable interior and exterior
  • Recognize and decipher vehicle malfunctions, dash lights, and related safety risks; immediately report any vehicle operating issues or defects. Replenish fuel and other fluids when running low.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance, daily inspection, routes, and fuel records.
  • Participate in planning and revising of daily transportation routes for NEMS Transportation efficiency as needed.
  • Perform other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Valid driver's license with a clean record (no violations within the last 5 years)
  • Must pass10panel drug screening and DOT Physical before time of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support and First Aid (Red Cross) certification required. Must obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to operate mid to large size vehicle and possess general automobile mechanism knowledge
  • Must be able to work
  • Monday through Friday rotational Saturday's flexible schedule
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with staff and patients/participants.
  • Must be able to work
independently, as well as part of a team to network with other drivers and NEMS staff.

  • Knowledge of body mechanics for assisting patients or persons with mobility limitations preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with specialneeds populations, including individuals with Dementia preferred.

LANGUAGE:


  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) preferred
  • Fluency in other languages is an asset.

STATUS:

This is an FLSA Non-exempt position.
This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
