NAMI McHenry County is seeking to hire a Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator, a position that will make a significant impact in McHenry County, reaching thousands of youth and young adults with life-changing programs each year.

Position Description:

The Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator provides day-to-day coordination and support for the new youth-serving educational programs and outreach at NAMI McHenry County, including classes, trainings, workshops, outreach presentations, and outreach events.

NAMI McHenry County offers several programs for youth, including some which are new to McHenry County.


These include:

• Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)

Suicide Prevention Training:
a one-hour, evidence-based presentation on the warning signs of suicide and how to act when you see these warning signs

• NAMI Ending the Silence: a onehour presentation on the warning signs of mental illness, and how to get support when you see these warning signs
• NAMI on Campus: a peertopeer club on college and high school campuses that helps end the stigma around mental illness, provides peer support, and empowers students with resources
• And more to come as we grow

As NAMI McHenry County seeks to intentionally grow its youth and young adult programming, we are seeking a part-time Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator to help us implement and grow these exciting programs.

The Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator will be the point of contact with schools and youth-serving organizations in McHenry County and will plan presentations for these organizations throughout the year.

This will include stewarding existing relationships, as well as building new relationships.

In addition to scheduling presentations, the Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator will be trained as a presenter in QPR and Ending the Silence and will regularly deliver presentations throughout the county.

The Youth Education and Outreach Coordinator will be the driving force to launch the new NAMI on Campus program this summer and fall.

The staff will build relationships to launch clubs throughout McHenry County, and will then be the liaison with the clubs and visit them on a regular basis to provide resources, training, and support.

The Coordinator will additionally serve as the lead staff for all outreach opportunities involving youth, which may include staffing a NAMI table at mental health fairs held at schools or other events/outreach opportunities that target youth and young adults.

In order to complete this job well, the Coordinator must be very comfortable with technology, and have the ability to quickly learn new systems, such as an electronic health record system to track education outcomes data.

The Coordinator should have a thorough understanding of MS Office/G Suite products. The Coordinator should also be a self-starter and be comfortable working both independently and within a team environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Youth Education and Outreach Coordination

• Coordinate the daytoday tasks of the Youth Education and Outreach programs at NAMI, including QPR, Ending the Silence, and NAMI on Campus
• Manage program calendars and ensure all programs have trained facilitators scheduled
• Assist with recruiting additional facilitators to be trained in these programs
• Oversee the project management of every training, including booking the space, marketing, booking facilitators, communication with all parties, enrolling participants, preparing materials for the day, etc.
• Maintain regular communication with trained facilitators and volunteers
• Build and maintain relationships with schools and youthserving organizations in order to grow youth and young adult programs
• Become certified to teach multiple programs and deliver these programs on a regular basis
• Staff youth outreach events on behalf of NAMI and help coordinate outreach volunteers as needed
• Collect and enter data on each program in NAMI's database system, including survey data
